Trump, Putin & the Ceasefire Mirage
Behind the Phone Call That Promised Peace — and Delivered Ambiguity

Dispatch No. 25-0519-01
Issued: May 19, 2025
Classification: Public Enlightenment Directive
Subject: Trump, Putin & the Ceasefire Mirage — When Negotiations Mean Nothing
🕊️ The Peace That Dials, But Never Answers
Two men, one war, and a telephone line that pretends to carry the weight of history.
Today, U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke for over two hours about the war in Ukraine. It was the most anticipated diplomatic theater of the year. Cameras flashed, analysts speculated, and somewhere in Washington, someone rehearsed the phrase “historic breakthrough” in front of a mirror.
The result?
A carefully choreographed anti-climax.
📞 The Call Heard Around the (State-Aligned) World
Trump declared the call “excellent.” He announced that ceasefire negotiations between Russia and Ukraine would begin “immediately,” and proposed the Vatican as a neutral host — a convenient location for prayer, penance, and plausible deniability.1
Putin, on the other hand, called the discussion “meaningful and frank.”2 In diplomatic terms, this usually precedes missile salvos, not olive branches.
According to the Kremlin, Russia is “prepared to engage in principle-based discussions.” These principles include:
A neutral Ukraine (translation: No NATO, ever)3;
Recognition of territorial shifts (translation: Give up Donbas and Crimea)4;
Lifting of all Western sanctions (translation: Forget everything and hug it out)5.
And then there was the “9-for-9” prisoner exchange — not between Russia and Ukraine, but between Russia and the United States. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed that both sides discussed swapping nine detainees from each country, reviving diplomatic rituals familiar to Cold War nostalgists and modern propaganda writers alike.6 No identities were released, no dates announced. Just the vague promise of “progress,” which in Ministry terms means headline fodder without delivery.
In other words: peace, on our terms — or war, on yours.
🤝 Zelenskyy’s Role: The Uninvited Guest at His Own Funeral
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who was not on the call, offered a press statement afterward. He welcomed “any sincere diplomatic step” but warned against “negotiations staged to delay or deceive.”7
He’s not wrong.
The Ukrainian side continues to call for an unconditional ceasefire, hoping the international spotlight might freeze the battlefield as Russia entrenches. But Zelenskyy also floated a multilateral summit — involving Russia, the U.S., EU, and UK — in a neutral state like Turkey, Switzerland, or the Vatican.8
The irony? This mirrors Russia’s original 2022 Istanbul proposal, which Ukraine rejected under Western advice.9 History may not repeat itself, but it definitely plagiarizes.
🕯️ Europe Lights a Candle, Not a Fire
European leaders expressed “measured optimism,” which is diplomatic code for “we don’t believe a damn thing, but we’re tired.” Most EU officials support Trump’s attempt to rein in escalation, but remain wary of handing Moscow a propaganda victory.10
Behind closed doors, however, there’s growing fear that:
Trump is outmaneuvering Europe, positioning himself as global peacemaker while Brussels debates gender quotas for AI algorithms.
Putin will stall, using negotiations as a shield while advancing militarily.11
The Vatican talks will become another Normandy Format — photo ops, no substance.
🔍 Analysis: A Ceasefire in Words, Not in War
This “peace phone call” was less about peace and more about narrative control.
Trump seeks a win to bolster his comeback campaign. Putin seeks breathing room while missiles continue flying. Zelenskyy seeks relevance in a dialogue from which he is increasingly excluded.
And the “9-for-9” prisoner swap? A humanitarian gesture wrapped in strategic theater — one entirely separate from the war in Ukraine. It signals a thaw in U.S.-Russia relations, while reinforcing the illusion of diplomatic productivity. The battlefield remains unchanged, but the headlines get a facelift.
The media will frame this as progress. The Ministry of Absolute Truth™ urges readers to remember:
A ceasefire is not a ceasefire until artillery stops. And negotiations are not peace until no one profits from prolonging war.
🕳️ The Ministry Concludes
When your negotiating team is a reality TV host and a former KGB officer, peace was never the point — perception was.

Zelensky's (Kiev parliament, too) term of office expired a year ago. Ze has no legal position. Aside from being loved and used by Russia's enemies. Russia has many enemies the EU larger than FUGUP is going after it forever!
If Zelensky were elected to a de jure state, which the former Ukr SSR is not, he has nothing to fight with that is not given to him by Trump. FUGUP (France, UK, Germany, Ukr, Poland, re Helmer) contributions are de minimus.
Ceasefire is in the US' court! Trump is making a show trying for a humanitarian scam that hides the FUGUPUS (add US) plan to sunder Russia for its resources bc FUGUP is going third world without a resource rich colony to plunder.
The Vatican,! Leo is an Augustinian. I know an Augustinian priest. Leo knows the US' proxy war is the antithesis of St Augustine's Just War! The Pope just got elected and Trump is trying to compromise him.
Leo needs to go to Gaza, then ex communicate war mongering America.
